Samples

See it before you believe it

Handwriting is difficult to judge on a screen. A photograph flattens the indentation the pen leaves, hides how the ink sits in the paper, and shows you none of the thing that actually matters - what it feels like to pull an envelope out of a letterbox and not be sure whether a person wrote it.

Free, posted, and no obligation attached to it.

What arrives

  • A handwritten envelope, addressed to you, written with the same pen and in the same hand a campaign would be. This is the part worth looking at first, because it is the part your recipients judge.
  • A written page inside - your own words if you send some, and otherwise a short letter that shows the hand across a full paragraph.
  • No brochure, no folder, no sales pack. One envelope, one letter.

Look at it in the light you would normally open post in. Run a thumb across the back of the page - the pressure ridges are the thing a printed handwriting font cannot produce, and once you have felt the difference it is hard to unsee on everyone else’s mail.

What to send us

A postal address, and optionally a sentence or two you would like written. If you have a campaign in mind, telling us roughly what it is means we can write something closer to it - but it is genuinely optional, and asking for a sample is not the same as asking for a quote.

Before you ask, in case it saves you the wait

Two things answer most of the questions a sample is meant to answer:

  • The calculator gives you a full indicative price for any combination of volume, message length and envelope. It does not ask for an email address and it does not hold anything back.
  • The examples page shows the writing on screen, which will not settle the question but will tell you quickly whether the style suits what you are sending.

And one thing a sample will not answer: whether the arithmetic works for you. That is a question about your margins, not our pen, and it is worth doing before the envelope arrives rather than after. The minimum order is 100 pieces.

Ask for one

We will write a sample and post it to you - a handwritten envelope with a written page inside, in the same hand a campaign would be. It is free and there is nothing attached to it.

Sample questions

What does the sample cost?

Nothing, and there is no obligation attached to it. We would rather spend a stamp than have you commission a campaign on the strength of a photograph.

Can you write our actual message on it?

Yes - send a sentence or two with the request and it will be written on the sample rather than filler text. If you would rather just see the hand and the ink, that is fine too.

How long does it take to arrive?

It goes into the post once we have written it, and after that it is Australia Post - so allow the same few days you would for any letter. We are a young business and we would rather not quote you a delivery promise we do not control.

Do I have to give you a postal address?

For a posted sample, yes - there is no way around it. It is used to send the sample and nothing else. If you would rather not, the calculator gives you full pricing with no details at all, and the examples page shows the writing on screen.

Is a sample the same hand my campaign would be written in?

Yes. There is one hand and it is the one you will get. A sample that flattered the real thing would be a strange way to start.

Or price it first

If what you actually want is a number rather than a letter, the calculator gives you one straight away and does not ask who you are.
